Simple and Realistic Healthy Eating Tips
A healthy eating habit includes wide range of foods to make sure that your body gets all the nutrients you need. This means it is not enough that you eat fruits alone or vegetables alone – cutting back the fats and carbohydrates. Your body needs energy, which you get from carbs, sugar, and protein. Your diet should be diverse – but all in balanced and moderation. Here are some healthy eating tips for you.
Healthy Eating Tips
- Don’t skip your breakfast. As your mother used to say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You need energy to work or study, energy that you get from carbohydrates, fats, and protein during breakfast.
- Eat based on the energy you need. If you are an athlete with active lifestyle, you need all the energy you can get to stay healthy. However, if you don’t get to burn all the energy from the food you eat, it’s time to cut back on carbs, fats, and sugar, as they are the hardest energy to consume.
- Eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are good for the heart, digestion, and overall wellness. Eat at least five portions of different fruits and vegetable every day. Substitute banana for snack, add some berries on your cereals, and have some veggie burrito for lunch.
- Eat more protein from fish. Fish contains omega oil, which is good for the heart. It is also easy to break down compared to protein from lamb, pork, or beef.
- Cut back on saturated fat, sweets, and salt. For adults, the maximum salt intake is 6g a day. If you don’t have an active lifestyle, it is not recommended to eat too much fats and sweets. Saturated fats come from dairy and poultry products. If you’re having meat for lunch or steak for dinner, choose lean cuts and cut off any fat left.
- Befriend unsaturated fats. Unsaturated fats are easier to consume. They can be found in vegetable oils, oily fish and avocados.
- Get hydrated. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day. That’s what doctors have always been saying since you cannot remember when. At least, this means you can exceed eight glasses and it’s just fine. Water flashes out toxins, cleans up your system, and helps in digestion and bowel movement. Just when staying hydrated is recommended, it is not suggested to drink soda and other sugary drinks. Also, refrain from drinking powdered juices. It is better to drink freshly squeezed juice with lesser sugar.
- Prepare your own food. In this sense, you will know what to include on your meal and what not to. You will also be able to control the amount of dressing on your salad, spread on your bread, and sweets on your juices.
- Take alcohol intake in moderation. Beer increases belly fats and too much alcohol targets your kidney, colon, liver and heart. Maintain everything in moderation to enjoy life to the fullest.
- Get an active lifestyle and maintain healthy weight. You don’t achieve overall wellness through diet alone. Getting active lifestyle and maintaining healthy weight for your age and built are also necessary.
